Risco Alumni Legacy of Learning Library

We have been keeping a little secret… because we wanted our students to be the very first to see it! 🖤💛

Over the summer, our elementary library received a complete transformation, and we are so excited to finally share the Risco Alumni Legacy of Learning Library with our families and community!

This beautiful space began with an idea from our Reading Coach, Jennifer Garris, who envisioned creating something special for our students while also honoring the generations of Risco alumni who have helped build the legacy of our school. What followed was truly a labor of love.

Jennifer, along with our teachers and staff, poured countless hours into organizing, decorating, moving books, creating displays, and turning that vision into the warm and inviting library you see today. We are incredibly thankful for everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped make it happen.

The name Legacy of Learning is especially meaningful to us. This library celebrates those who came before us while creating a place where today's students can discover new stories, develop a love of reading, and continue building the Risco legacy for generations to come.

We purposely waited to share the finished library because we wanted our students to experience the surprise first. Seeing them walk through the doors and discover their new library made all of the work worthwhile. ❤️Thank you to everyone who gave their time, talents, ideas, donations, and helping hands** — thank you. You created much more than a beautiful room. You created a special place for our students that we hope will be enjoyed for many years to come.

A few important reminders as we get started:

⏰ School begins at 7:45 a.m.
🍳 Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:20 a.m.
🚌 Bus schedules will be approximately 15 minutes earlier and 15 minutes later than in previous years, so please plan accordingly.

Our teachers and staff are officially back to school! Today marked their first day back as we kicked off the new school year with a day of professional development and in-service. A huge thank you to Pleasant View Church for providing breakfast for our teachers and staff this morning! We are so grateful for the kindness and generosity you continue to show our school. Congratulations to all the 2027 Southeast Regional Teacher of the Year nominees and winners! On August 6, the nominees and winners were recognized and celebrated at the Regional Teacher of the Year Banquet. Our very own, Mrs. Garris, was recognized at the banquet! This year's winners were Austin Westrich from Chaffee Junior/Senior High School and Jessica Fronabarger from Oak Ridge R-VI Schools! Thank you, Mrs. Garris, for all you do for our students and school! We appreciate you!
